Mawgan pub regulars keep air ambulance flying

Customers at Mawgan’s Ship Inn have raised enough funds to keep Cornwall Air Ambulance in the air and saving lives It costs around £600 per hour in fuel costs to keep the helicopter in the air, funded completely by charitable donations.
Mawgan’s pub locals have now done their bit, by raising £1,290 for the charity’s Fund a Flight campaign, meaning the funds will keep the helicopter in the air for two hours.
An event at the Ship Inn saw 50 people sitting down to a three course meal and enjoying entertainment throughout the evening from guitarist Tom Briggs and Cornish singers Thraw’d Together. The event was fully booked not long after being announced and over 20 people were on the waiting list.
The meal featured cream of onion soup with crème fraiche, rosemary infused oil and homemade shallot, parsley and thyme bread; slow braised Cornish brisket beef with creamed potato, honey glazed carrots, crispy bacon and hazelnuts with its own jus; and bread and butter pudding with apricot glaze and clotted cream.
Lanarth Farm Gate donated the vegetables, Dales’s Family Butchers supplied the meat and Gwavas Jersey Farm the dairy produce free of charge. Landlady Alli Laskey organised the event and her husband Greg, the pub’s chef, created the dishes.
