Helston and Lizard Peninsula residents can be forgiven for their new police inspector looks a little familiar – he was last in the town five years ago.

Inspector Mark Eccles, pictured, previously served as police inspector for the Helston sector in December 2006, before handing over to Inspector Caroline Coad. Now, after a number of other changes with the post – most recently held by Inspector Lyn Gooding, who has now moved to new duties – Mr Eccles is back at the helm.

Since last holding the role, his section has combined with Camborne, Pool and Redruth, and now covers an area from St Day and Portreath to Porthleven and the far end of the Lizard Peninsula – making it the largest population police sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Mr Eccles has spoken of his plans to enforce traffic regulations more vigorously, with regular stop checks and more officers in place where accidents have already happened or are likely to. Anti-social behaviour is another problem the offer is keen to tackle.
