NEW plans have been unveiled for up to 80 new homes land between Kings Road and the M5, close to the Morrisons Distribution Centre and The Willow Man.

Developers say there will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes to meet local need, and 30% of these will be affordable housing.

Two parking spaces will be provided for each home and developers say the design is in keeping with the current homes on the Kings Down development.

The site, which is approximately two hectares, will use an existing access junction off Kings Road.

The site already has outline planning consent for employment uses as part of the 'regeneration and urban extension' plan, however the land has now been purchased by Homes England as part of the 'Accelerated Delivery Programme' for open market and affordable housing.

Homes England have an ambitious plan to get homes on site by 2020.

Their timeline suggests a outline planning application will be submitted in April, a developer appointed in 2019 when a more detailed reserved matters application will be submitted, with construction due to take place in late 2019 and 2020.

Nearby homes have been leafleted and residents can give feedback on the proposals by completing a form on www.lhc.net/news.

An drop-in event was held last night (Tuesday, February 20) at Kings Down Pavilion.

Paul Osborne from LHC said: "It went well, we had a steady stream of people and feedback was generally positive. They seemed pleased to see more affordable housing being planned."
