Ilminster Carnival: The BIG day has arrived!
7:10am Saturday 6th October 2012 in News
ORGANISERS are keeping their fingers crossed that today (Saturday) will remain dry, as final preparations are made for Ilminster Carnival.
Thousands of people will line the streets for the colourful cavalcade as it winds its way through Ilminster.
The procession of carts, bands, majorettes, masqueraders and collectors will set off from Whitelackington Hill at 7.15pm and follow the usual route via East Street, Silver Street, West Street and Station Road before finishing at the King Road Tyres roundabout.
Roads will close to traffic at 7pm but motorists should note that the Boxstone Hill road will be closed from 3pm to allow the Carnival procession entries to assemble.
A rest area on the procession route will start from the bottom of Silver Street, just after the St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice charity shop, and finish just after the barber’s shop on West Street corner. Signs will indicate the start and finish of the rest area.
Food and hot drinks will be available from the Carnival committee stall in the Market Square all evening.
Collectors are required – tins can be picked up from Ile Youth Club between 5pm and 6pm. Three or more collectors working for a local charity or group can receive 25% of what they collect on the night.
