11th hour rescue plan saves Special Horses for Special Children!

AN ELEVENTH-HOUR donation has ensured that the Special Horses for Special Children equine therapy centre on the outskirts of Chard will NOT be closing after all.

It was announced earlier this week that the centre at Scrapton Farm in Wadeford was to close because a much-needed fundraising drive had fallen short of its £35,000 target.

But the centre’s founder Lilias Ahmeira has now said that a final last-ditch attempt had the desired response and some “incredibly generous people” had come forward with a rescue plan.

“The centre will not be closing after all,” she said. “The centre is safe until spring thanks to some incredibly generous people.”

The centre supplies sensory work and horse play for children struggling with autism, Aspergers, neurological disorders and emotional disturbance and Lilias said it had produced “phenomenal results” since first opening in 2010.

But Lilias said that the centre is still in need of a group of Special Angels who can underwrite any losses on a monthly basis until the client base and charitable support can be rebuilt to prevent the group from sliding back into financial difficulties.
