Curry Rivel Primary School bring books to life thanks to Women's Institute
STORY sacks are bringing books to life for children at the primary school thanks to some handy work from the WI.
In the past couple of years the WI has transformed seven book characters and scenery into real life, all self-funded.
WI secretary Jackie German said: “It was originally for parents to take home and read books with their children.
“It can vary how long it takes and we all fund it ourselves, mostly through odd bits of wool or materials around the house.
“It’s brilliant that they love it and we have strong links with the school, so it’s great that they have been so supportive.”
Head teacher Amanda Russell said: “We talk to the teachers about what books they’re reading, and the ladies go away and make the toys.
“The teachers use them in the stories to build their work around, which brings it to life for the children.”
Some of the books used are Mr Gumpy’s Outing, Gruffalo and The Way Back Home.
