READERS Brian Jackson and Tony Osmond answered our request for photos of the former Langport East train station which closed 50 years ago in September.

The photos show the two platforms in use before its official closure on September 10, 1962 as part of the national Beeching Cuts.

The station was one of the stops on the Castle Cary to Taunton line.

I always thought they were RAILWAY stations, not TRAIN stations.

Come on, get it right!

This station was NOT closed as a part of the "Beeching cuts". Although Dr Beeching was in the employment of BR as of 1st June 1962, the report that set out his plans for network and station closures was not published until March 1963. It is lazy journalism, and a common misconception, that all railway closures were prompted by Dr Beeching. there were many many stations and lines closed before he was even emploted by BR.
