Cllr David Hall cuts the ribbon, watched by colleagues, students from The Castle School and Gael Burns, of Somerset College.
CYCLISTS can cut their journey times with a new cycle route into Taunton town centre.
The Western Cycle Route, the town’s newest cycle path, provides a flood-safe route from behind Somerset College and Castle School through Longrun Meadow to town.
It will be used by students from the two campuses as well as pedestrians using it as a cut-through.
Deputy leader of the county council David Hall opened the path last week and said: “This sees the realisation of a scheme which has been an aspiration for a great many years.
“I’d like to thank all the partners involved for their contribution, which, together with a successful grant from the council’s Small Improvement Scheme, has made this new cycle and footpath possible.”
The track is part of Sustrans’ 352-mile National Cycle Route 3, which connects Land’s End in Cornwall to Bristol.

I thought this had been open for over a year.
