Last chance to see Tatworth flower festival
10:00am Sunday 23rd September 2012 in News
THERE'S one last chance to catch a flower festival at St John’s Church in Tatworth today named the Saints Go Marching In.
Betty Colby was flower co-ordinator for the church some years ago. She produced the flower rota to ensure that someone sorted out fresh flowers for the church every week and she tended them during the week.
Jack Bragg, her friend and companion, helped her with the task. Sadly, Betty had to have both legs amputated and eventually died.
Since then her friends and family have a party at Jack’s home on the Thursday in May nearest her birthday at which money is raised to provide flowers in the church.
This year it was decided that the £50 raised would help finance a flower festival at St John’s.
The church is open to visitors from 12noon to 4pm. Visitors will be welcome at the 10am Harvest Festival and the 6.30pm Harvest Songs of Praise on Sunday. A garden party will be held in the church grounds with stalls and cream teas on Saturday from 2pm. Light refreshments will be available at all other times and entry is free.
Ladies who arrange flowers in church week by week are making the arrangements, which will tell the stories of 16 saints, some well known, others more obscure.
