Cosmetic surgery on the rise in Taunton

This is The West Country: Cosmetic surgery on the rise in Taunton Cosmetic surgery on the rise in Taunton

MORE and more people are having cosmetic surgery at Nuffield Health Taunton Hospital.

The 33% rise in the first six months of 2012, compared to the same period last year, dwarfs the national increase of 6%.

Cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgeon Jasper Gill said: “I see a lot of people in my clinic from all walks of life – young women who want larger breasts to improve their figure and confidence, older women who have completed their family, and an increasing number of men.”

Jenny, of Taunton, who is in her mid-50s and recently had a breast enlargement operation, said: “I’ve always had quite small breasts, and kept seeing dresses and evening gowns I loved, but I knew wouldn’t fit me well.

“After talking to a friend I decided I was not too old and wanted to make a change.”

Rajiv Grover, consultant plastic surgeon and president elect of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: “The continued popularity of aesthetic plastic surgery even through financially difficult times demonstrates that the public sees real value in the psychological and physical improvement that can be achieved.

“Advances in techniques have also meant it’s harder to ‘tell’ if someone has undergone a procedure – they may just look well-rested or refreshed.”

I think that everywhere we go, plastic surgery is on the rise and I really don't know how to feel about it. One side of me wants to do it and the part is holding me back because of the risks. I just hope that we all become comfortable in our own skin so that we will accept and respect one another.
