Owner's shock at Burnham cafe raid
A CAFE owner has described her shock after thieves smashed their way in and made off with large amounts of cash.
Anne Fudge, owner of Bay View Cafe on Burnham's South Esplanade, discovered a scene of mayhem when she arrived to open up early on Sunday morning.
Sometime between 6.30pm on Saturday and 6am on Sunday, thieves had broken in and taken cash from the till as well as other items.
Anne told the Weekly News: “They tried to get in through the door but they couldn't so they went round the side and smashed a massive hole through a window and went through that.
“They damaged a filing cabinet, windows and doors and took a few other bits and pieces as well as floats from the till.
“I don't want to say exactly how much money was taken but we certainly won't be leaving any money on the premises anymore.
“It was a shock and I was upset and angry when I saw it.
“It's going to cost about £2,000 to put new doors in. I'm not exactly sure how much replacing the window will cost, but it could be several hundred pounds.”
Police are urging anybody with information to call them on 101.
