Holyrood Academy in Chard hosts German students
STUDENTS at Holyrood Academy have been joined by their friends from Germany this week.
A group of students aged between 12 and 16 travelled from Chard’s twin town of Helmstedt to do some sightseeing across the UK, arriving in the town on Thursday at 7pm.
The visitors all stayed with host families over the weekend after being given a talk on the town by Mayor Cllr Cathie Morrison on Friday.
Two of the German students – Johannes and Kristin – also took part in a week’s work experience at Avishayes Primary School.
En route to Somerset, the Helmstedt students enjoyed a visit to London, including a boat trip on the Thames, visited Walmer Castle in Gillingham and Rochester Cathedral, but since arriving in Chard their journey has taken more of a West Country flavour.
On Monday, they all enjoyed a fossil walk in Charmouth and visited Chard Museum to take part in a quiz on the town’s history Yesterday (Tuesday) saw a day of sightseeing in Bath before a farewell party in the evening at the Academy.
Holyrood students will be heading out to Germany to see their counterparts in March.
