Family fun at Chard community day
8:00am Sunday 16th September 2012 in News
PRAYERS were answered last weekend when organisers of a rearranged community day at the skate park in Henson Park in Chard got their wishes.
The event was originally scheduled for July but was cancelled due to bad weather .
But there was not a cloud in the sky on Saturday as the re-arranged event took place with plenty of gusto as families enjoyed a range of stalls, drumming workshops and demonstrations with the centre of attention being on the skate park itself with a Sk8 Jam for bikers, skaters and in-line skaters.
Among the helpers was the Mayor of Chard, Cllr Cathie Morrison, who was showing off her culinary skills on the barbecue.
Youth group Street Space hosted the community day with support from Chard Town Council and South Somerset District Council.
The Chard Goldstar Majorettes kicked things off while there was an auction to help raise funds towards a trip that six youngsters went on in August to Seica Mare in Romania – Chard’s twin town – to convert a portable building into a pharmacy.
Youth worker Tracey Hallett told the News she could not speak highly enough of the young people who went to Romania with her for the project.
“They were fantastic,” she said. “They worked so hard – they were amazing.”
