High Street, Taunton - water works start on Monday

Phil Luxton. Phil Luxton.

IT will be business as usual when Wessex Water starts work in Taunton's High Street on Monday, September 17.

The work is part of the firm's ongoing Operation Clean and Clear scheme to upgrade 50 miles of water mains by 2014.

Last month, project managers for the scheme invited business owners to attend a drop-in session to find out more about what the work in High Street would involve.

Phil Luxton, Wessex Water’s project manager for the scheme, said: “It was very important to us that we met with local businesses to discuss what the work would involve.

"It also provided a great opportunity for us to plan a schedule of works with appropriate dates to help reduce the impact on local businesses."

The work which is expected to be completed by mid- November will see the firm working in sections to ensure access to shops and properties is maintained.

Water improvements are also continuing in other areas of the town including Greenway Road, Priorswood Road and Lisieux Way

Has the high street been regenerated yet? Just that someone always wants to dig something up that's new.

Just seems no coordination with works, there are too many round works in taunton now I sat for ages in traffic to travel 2 miles because of badly phased lights and road works.

Road works have to happen, but resurfacing, new power lines and water pipes might as well shut the town and put signs up saying county town closed.

A journey of only 2 miles would surely make more sense on foot or bike, especially with this amount of congestion.
