40 arrests made in police operation

A POLICE operation has made 40 arrests across Avon and Somerset during the first 48 hours of its campaign.

Avon and Somerset’s Operation Relentless is targeting those who are involved in burglary, robbery and car crime across the force area – which make up for more than half of all crimes recorded.

During the first day of Relentless a total of 30 arrests were made, with a further 10 yesterday (August 11).

In addition to strong enforcement action, police officers, police community support officers and special constables are providing high visibility reassurance patrols across the force area, offering members of the public crime prevention and crime reduction advice.

On September 17 new recruits to Avon and Somerset Police will have an opportunity to be part of the Relentless operation. As part of their training, the 24 fledgling PCs will join colleagues, gaining experience in the highly successful force-wide operation, which has already resulted in 2,300 arrests during its seven-year history.
