Chard schoolboy's charity torch carried by Lord Coe
THE Paralympics may have come to an end – but one Chard schoolboy is keeping the Olympic spirit alive this week.
Redstart Primary School pupil Logan McKerrow’s torch relay for Hearing Dogs for Deaf Children goes on – and this week gained a high profile supporter – Olympic athlete Lord Sebastian Coe.
The chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) held the paper torch, made by the five-year-old in school, at the Olympic Park on Sunday.
Logan was in London over the weekend and was re-united with his torch once more. He was invited to attend the Paralympic Games closing ceremony with the charity for which he has raised over £23,000.
But the relay will continue – as the item has once again been purchased on eBay and is now with the 17th torchbearer, and will hopefully head to another sporting venue – Wembley.
The torch will also be seen at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’s Summer Show at the Grange on Sunday, September 16.
It is hoped the relay will continue through to the Deaf Olympics, which is taking place in Sofia next year.
