Gently does it for the elderly in Crewkerne
4:50pm Tuesday 11th September 2012 in News
AGE UK Somerset has announced that it is launching a gentle exercise class in Crewkerne for older people to help practice movements for “daily living.”
The programme is being supported with the help of Active Somerset funding, and will start on Thursday, September 13, at 10am at the Unitarian Church Hall and every Thursday from then on.
People who have taken part in the scheme elsewhere have said that the ‘stretch, breathe and relax’ sessions have helped them to keep their hip joints and lumbar region flexible in a safe, gentle way.
A spokesman for Age UK said: “The programme stretches and tones your body, helping to make you stronger and more flexible while improving your breathing.
“This will help you relax and sleep better.”
People have been asked to take a mat or blanket with them, and all movements will be adapted for a steady, comfortable practice, lying on the mat, standing or seated.
Sessions cost £3.50 and further details can be obtained from Di Ramsay on 0845-6434702 or e-mail dianne.ramsay@ageuksomerset.org.uk
