A DAREDEVIL pensioner will be abseiling Cheddar Gorge on her 75th birthday in aid of two charities close to her heart.
Maggie Roberts, from West Huntspill, is hoping to raise £700 to be split between the Alzheimer’s Society and Epilepsy Action in her latest fundraising endeavour this weekend.
The pensioner has done her fair share of daring deeds, from walking along the wing of a plane in mid flight to jumping out of one in two tandem skydives.
She told the Weekly News: “I have a close childhood friend who has Alzheimer’s and I know a few people with epilepsy.
“My daughter got cancer and also developed epilepsy and she passed away. There’s not enough knowledge out there for the general public on how it can restrict people’s lives. I hope by doing this I can promote awareness of both causes.”
Barclays bank has also said it will double the amount Maggie raises up to £700, so she is hoping to offer both charities £700 each.
The Weekly News reported Maggie’s last fundraising venture in June, a blue and yellow themed Afternoon Tea event which raised £500 for St Margaret’s.
