A TALENTED 14-year-old musician has the chance to realise a dream after progressing in a national music competition.
Jonny Shipton, from Burtle, made it through to the regional finals of the Open Mic UK contest after impressing the judges with his own version of an Ed Sheeran song ‘You Need Me’.
The Sidcot School student, who has been playing the guitar for three years and is self-taught, is competing for a place in the National Finals at the O2 Arena in London.
He said: “I am really excited about progressing to the next round at the end of September.
"Although I have been in shows and performed in public before this was the first time I have performed in front of judges which made it a bit more nerve wracking.”
The Open Mic UK competition is one of the biggest in the country for solo singers and performers and gives auditionees the opportunity to perform live in front of industry judges and an audience, and boasts a recording contract for the overall winner.
