Ilminster Town Council discuss East Street parking issues

PEOPLE who live in Ilminster town centre will be sent a letter about the parking problems they face outside their homes.

Members of the town council are looking at parking concerns after a group of people in East Street launched a campaign to have on-street restrictions removed in the area.

The town council has decided to write to the group, led by Liz Hartley and Susanna Dalton, to explain Somerset County Council’s reintroduction of parking enforcement officers in the area.

People have asked that a one hour restriction is removed and for parking on single yellow lines at weekends to be restored.

Councillors said at the planning meeting on Tuesday, August 28, that they will look at a number of parking issues, not only in East Street but other areas of Ilminster as well.

They agreed to consider residents’ parking schemes, pedestrianisation, access points to the town and the general availability of parking.

Councillors hope to hold a meeting with Bev Norman and Colin Fletcher, of Somerset County Council’s Highways department, to discuss the issues further.
