Skate park community day in Chard

ORGANISERS of a re-arranged community day at the skate park in Henson Park in Chard are hoping for dry weather when the event is finally held tomorrow (Saturday).

The event was originally scheduled for July but had to be cancelled due to atrocious weather.

Families can enjoy stalls, bouncy castle, barbecue, drumming workshop and demonstrations – and there will be a Sk8 Jam for bikers, skaters and in-line skaters.

The Street Space youth group is hosting the community day, supported by Chard Town Council and South Somerset District Council.

The event will start with a display by Chard Gold Star Majorettes at 11am and go on until 4pm.

The day will raise funds towards a trip that six youngsters have been on to Seica Mare in Romania – Chard’s twin town – to convert a portable building into a pharmacy.

The Street Space team has just returned home after completing the project and youth worker Tracey Hallett said it was an amazing experience.

“It was totally awesome,” she said. “We completed the job that was needed and the time away was an education for all of us.

“It was really valuable youth work.”
