Chard Carnival Committee prepares to crown royalty

CHARD Carnival Committee has announced that it will be ‘crowning’ its Carnival royalty tomorrow (Thursday, September 6) at the Lordleaze Hotel.

Becky Higgins will be Miss Chard and Helen Salter will be the Carnival Princess.

It had been hoped that Andrew Emery would be Mr Chard, but organisers have said he has pulled out of the role due to “personal circumstances.”

Carnival chairman Helena Stone would like to thank all three of them, however, after they raised a whopping £1,259 for Carnival funds.

More money will be raised when a cash bingo night is held at Crowshute House, Chard, on Saturday, September 8, from 7pm, when refreshments and a raffle will also be available.

The annual Carnival motorcycle run on Sunday, September 30, starts outside Barclays Bank in Fore Street, Chard, at 11am when the bikers will head out on an 80-mile ride across Somerset and Dorset.

Helena said: “Entries for the main procession are coming in and plans are now full steam ahead for October 13.”
