Chard and Ilminster Carnival processions just a month away

CARNIVAL is coming – and that’s official!

The summer is coming to a close and the countdown has well and truly begun to when the streets are illuminated by the colourful Carnival cavalcade in Ilminster on Saturday, October 6, and Chard on Saturday, October 13.

Preparations are ongoing for the main events, and there will also be the ever popular children’s Carnivals to look forward to on Saturday, September 29, in Ilminster and Saturday, October 6, in Chard.

Entry forms for the Ilminster children’s parade are available now from Boots in Ilminster and organisers are hoping for a good turnout again.

It has been announced that the parade on September 29 will take a new route.

Judging will be held at 1pm at the Ile Youth Centre and then the Carnival will start at 1.45pm, going down East Street, Silver Street, Strawberry Bank and North Street, and then back up East Street to the youth centre.

The fire service will head up the children’s and main Carnivals in Ilminster again this year, but there will be no Carnival royalty as nobody came forward to fill the Prince and Princess roles.

However, Carnival organisers hope they will have at least one of the torch bearers who carried the Olympic flame through Ilminster back in May taking part in the parade, while the Jolly Green Giant mascot from Yeovil Town FC will also appear.

There are the usual events in the week leading up to the main parade on October 6, and shops and businesses are being urged to take part in the Carnival window competition.
