Bridgwater MP to air traffic concerns

Ian Liddell-Grainger Ian Liddell-Grainger

Bridgwater MP Ian Liddell-Grainger is meeting with Government officials in a bid to restrict the numbers of mobile homes being transported through town.

Mr Liddell-Grainger said the effect of the vehicles, combined with extra traffic heading for Hinkley Point, could be ‘disastrous’.

He said: “I am hoping to ban lorries with mobile homes on the back which are destined for Minehead from travelling during certain hours.

“If they were restricted to travel only between 8pm and 7am it would ease a lot of congestion in Bridgwater.”

Has he told Portakabin of his plans, is that why they are pulling out of Bridgwater and moving to Highbridge. Another own goal I think Mr Liddell-Grangier

How often do mobile homes come through the town ? Perhaps when he is stuck behind one next time he can get his laptop out ( whilst stopped ) and acknowledge the email I sent him on 8th Jule 2012.

No concerns regarding Hinkley traffic just the odd Mobile home, Touring vans and Horse Boxes are much more of a pain in the butt.

He is unbelievable. Ignores all the stuff that matters, or at best pays lip service to it, but kicks up a fuss about something so unimportant as this! Arrrggghhhh

I'm with you on that one Sheldoncooper lol.

Seriously though, I may be mistaken but am not aware of any provision within the Road Traffic Act that would restrict the type of load a vehicle could or could not carry during certain hours. Weight/width limitations yes but loads? what a @$#&!

Caravans yes but the odd mobile home once or twice a year what a joke. He makes himself look like a prize .... every time he opens his mouth .There are more important issues he should be dealing with POST OFFICE comes to mind !!!!

I've lived in Bridgwater all my life and never seen a mobile home travelling through?!
If MPs were restricted to live only between 8pm and 7am it would ease a lot of congestion in my life!

With everyone else, not seen one mobile home on the back of a lorry when driving & cycling in Bridgy.

Hopefully it will be a major own goal for him, I can't imagine his supporters in the villages along the A39 would appreciate these unseen lorries rumbling past when they are trying to sleep!

Ban the odd mobile home? When stuck behind one I know it can be a pain. HOWEVER, how many mobile homes do we see coming along our roads, how many EDF HGV's coming along our roads?
Wake up and get real Mr Liddell Grainger. Speak up for your constituents and fight for the Bridgwater/Hinkley bypass!

Wake upTJB u r keen to get this bypass. Do u live near the A39 route and fear the traffic increase, or do u want to stick a fat finger in the bypass pie?.

BYPASS PIE. Ingredients: new road planned and approved. Tenders out to contractors, especially reputable contractors. Mix in loads of money. Mix it all up. Let it harden. The delicious Bypass Pie will keep the contractor fed for years.

I can't remember the last time I saw a mobile home anywhere around here, and I'm fairly certain they aren't going to Minehead, Doniford maybe but not Minehead.
Mr Liddell Grainger, you need to wake up and smell the roses, you don't deserve the job you do.
I know of someone who want to ILG about a problem they were having in Bridgwater, he never listened to a word they said and wouldn't let them talk, he should be a primary school teacher not an MP.

Well, I must be in a minority here, but living just off the A39 I see quite a few mobile homes being transported towards Minehead but I don't think it merits governmental interferance. But back to the subject heading. What have caravans got to do with air traffic?

Mr Pendant try Bridgwater in the summer months every other vehicle tow@s a caravan now they are a pain on the roads they should pay road tax. Im not sure where air traffic comes into the conversation though ?

Establish the facts before you open your mouth. Yes, I do live on the A39 route and no, I don't have any vested interest in the construction of the bypass. I am concerned for the safety factor, not only for myself but for the community and the Hinkley workforce. It would appear you don't live in the area, if you did you too would be concerned about safety and disruption. The odd mobile homes will only cause minor traffic problems compared to the volumes of HGV's proposed by EDF. Wake up!

There is the odd mobile home on a trailer bound for Haven @ Doniford. they use an escort and pull in wherever possible to allow traffic to pass.

ILG is a buffoon of the highest order. One of these wide loads travelling at night, the overhang off the trailer sides would not be visible, and all an approaching car would see are the headlights of the wagon at the front.

Was well documented, Holiday Caravans are more of a nuisance, and what about tractors with trailers (usually without a rear numberplate and or lights etc) Plying to & fro Cannington Grain.

ILG should be expending his energy on a B/Water by-pass in view of HPC.

Whilst he is at it and perhaps reply to his postbag.

By the way I live by the A39

My attempt at sarcasm obviously didn't work for you MINIME2! (Look at the headline the Murky gave this story.) BTW, we're talking about mobile homes on the back of lorries, not caravans!

Remember folks, as IGL proudly exclaims on his website, 'IAN GETS THINGS DONE'. Not necessarily the RIGHT THINGS mind you, just 'THINGS' !

So you can rest assured that he and his dedicated team (including several family members, lavishly paid from public expenses) will sort out this horrific situation.
I am confident that with his immense resources, these legions of lorries with mobile homes on the back will never again be allowed to blight our beautiful landscape !

Talk about being out of touch! Try getting in to out out of Bridgwater during the rush hour (well, the couple of hours as they are now).

There are fundamental road traffic management issues effecting the town, planning gaffs which are now impacting on the prosperity of the town; mis-phased traffic lights, ill placed pedestrian crossings, poor access to retail parks, lack of sufficient filter lanes to name a few.

It is having a negative impact on my business - it's getting to the point where I shall be forced to move my business from the town.We have people visit us from all over the country - almost all of them comment on the complete farce which is the Bridgwater (lack of) traffic system. No one to date has cited mobile home transport as an issue.

Mr Granger - earn your corn and get it sorted. This would earn you respect in the community.

Yours, frustratedly

MINIME2, according to ILGs expenses he paid (that means us) about £7000 in november 2007 for a computer system to be installed into the place he is reputed to visit occasionally (his bridgwater office) then in march 2008 a similar amount was spent to reposition it within said office.

We do get value for money don't we.

P.S. said computer system was purchased from a firm in Wellington, not even supporting local businesses.

What a joke

Not Bridgwater, which more likely voted for Labour, but more likely rural Conservative turkeys voting for Christmas.
