TWO Bridgwater retirees who cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats raised more than £3,000 for charity.

Martyn Baker, 61, from Priory Court and his brother-in-law Richard French, 65, from North Petherton, cycled 1,034 miles over 18 days in persistent wind and rain to raise £3390 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Martyn, who was an engineer at Hinkley Point B Power Station, said: “It was an ambition we both had for some time and we decided to do it when we retired.

“I have been involved with the Children’s Hospice South West for a while and my wife is a member of the Bridgwater Friends Group.

“Having visited the Charlton Farm Children’s Hospice near Wraxall I saw first-hand what a superb job they do – hence we both decided to raise as much money for them as we could.

“Our original target was £1000 so raising £3390 was just fantastic!”
