ENERGY giant EDF has won permission to build and operate a temporary sea jetty at its proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point.
Last week, the Marine Management Organisation and the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change approved EDF’s application for a 500m jetty which will be used during the construction of Hinkley Point C should consent be granted.
In the event that permission is not given the jetty will be removed.
An EDF spokesman said the jetty will allow “significant volumes” of construction materials to be delivered by sea as part of EDF’s transport strategy of minimising traffic on local roads.
EDF will start construction on the jetty soon and it expected to take about 15 months to build.
Richard Mayson, of EDF, said: “We’re pleased to have been given the go-ahead for the jetty.
“It will make a considerable contribution towards mitigating the impact of the station’s construction on the local community, and today’s decision marks another important step in the right direction.”
