Fly-tipping levels "considerably higher" in Sedgemoor

LEVELS of fly-tipping in Sedgemoor are “considerably higher” than before changes were made to recycling centre opening hours in April 2011.

A report for a Sedgemoor District Council Polden Clusters meeting this week said while there was a small drop in fly-tipping in April and May of this year compared to the same period last year, the levels are still much higher than before last year's changes were introduced by the Somerset Waste Partnership.

The report says: “The Clean Surroundings Team continue to respond promptly to the increased levels of flytipping. The council's enforcement officer continues to investigate cases and has issued many fixed penalty notices, with several cases having been taken to court, with outcomes pending.”

I have reported fly tippers' with car and van registrations only to be asked " can I prove the fly tipping belongs to the car or van dropping it " well it came out of the car or van ive given you the registration for. Sometimes when you try to be helpful you lose the will to live with questions like that.

the council have done their selfs no favours, they have closed most tips 2 days per week and started charging for certain waste, therefore people are going to fly tip hence the council foot the bill picking it back up.but there is no excuse for those bussinesses to dump their rubbish anywhere they feel.

Personally I think fly tipping is wrong. If flies are getting paid a decent wage for flying around all day doing nothing productive, why should I tip them and make it even more attractive a job ?
