PUPILS of Sampford Arundel School braved the elements as they went on their annual school ramble.

The walk took them down lanes and footpaths, before the children were given a welcome picnic stop at Marlands, next to the entrance to Whiteball tunnel. Once there, hosts Peter and Anne Etherton treated the children to cake and let them explore the gardens.

Head teacher Eddie East was delighted that even the youngest Reception children managed the three mile walk without complaint, pointing out that because the children regularly went on welly walks to learn from the surrounding countryside they had built up the stamina for a more challenging excursion.
