A Taunton mum has spoken of her grief a year after her 13-year-old daughter was killed in a road accident.

Scores of people attended the Run4Amy fun run in memory of Amy Hofmeister at the town’s Blackbrook Pavilion on Sunday.

The event raised £1,000 on the day with sponsorship still coming in, the proceeds being split between the Think Amy! Campaign to encourage drivers to slow down, Somerset Sight, the NSPCC, Road Peace and Stand Against Violence.

Amy’s mother, Jane, said: “I want it to be a yearly event to help keep Amy’s memory alive, to maintain awareness and celebrate Amy’s life.

“She was a fun, vibrant person – really kind – and it’s the sort of event she’d have organised and enjoyed.

“It doesn’t get any easier with time.

“Hopefully, an event like this helps keep the safety message out there and will help prevent another tragedy, but it’s my daughter and it’s all-consuming every day.”

Visitors at the event had the chance to bowl at Somerset cricket captain Marcus Trescothick.

Blackbrook Pavilion deputy manager Nick Dunslow and Amy’s grandmother, June Metcalfe, managed to get the former England Test star out.

Amy, who attended Bishop Fox’s Community School, died after she was hit by a car in Blackbrook Way on June 15 last year.

Leonard Jones, 42, of Mulberry Close, Taunton, is in custody awaiting sentence after he admitted causing Amy’s death by dangerous driving.

Leanne Burnell, 21, of Bishop’s Hull, has denied a similar charge and is due go for trial at Taunton Crown Court
