BOSSES at Somerset County Cricket Club hope to hold more prestigious events at the County Ground after hailing the Elton John gig a major success.

Around 14,000 people were undeterred by the torrential rain as they packed into the ground for Sunday’s concert.

Chief executive Guy Lavender said the event went really well and it was a proud moment for the club.

He said: “We are extremely proud to be able to bring artists like Sir Elton to Taunton.

“You can’t do much about the weather but it was great to hold this event and our bars and retail units were very busy.

“We will look at whether we can hold more events like this but we are focused on the future years and aware the summer is priority for cricket.”

Lavender assured cricket fans the pitch will be fit to play on for Wednesday’s Twenty20 clash against Warwickshire.

He added: “Our head groundsman has been very busy but it will be fine. We have a good time before the next match and there are no major problems.”
