ASDA in Bridgwater has seen the launch of a new scheme which will bring the store closer to the community.
The new Community Life programme aims to create places where local organisations and people can meet, and where customers decide which charities and local groups to support.
Every Asda store now has a community life champion to support local community organisations within a one-mile radius of their local store.
Emma-Jayne Brown, community life champion at Asda Bridgwater, said: “Every two months locals can select a charity to be put on a board and nominated.
“Three from the list are chosen by a vote and customers then vote each time they shop at the store, using tokens, for the winner. The winner will receive £200 and the other two get £50 each.
“There’s about eight nominated causes on the board so it’s doing well. The three charities chosen so far are the Musgrove Leukaemia Group, Bridgwater Hospital League of Friends and bibic.”
The branch is also looking to help more local projects – anyone interested should contact Emma-Jayne on 01278-720432.
