PEOPLE who want their say on the future of Ilminster are being urged to stand for the town council this week.

An opportunity to serve on the 15-strong council is available following the resignation of Marsha Miles, who decided to leave due to an increase in her work and family commitments.

Mayor Cllr Carol Goodall said: “The council was served extremely well by Marsha and we are extremely sorry to see her go. We hope we will attract somebody as equally as enthusiastic and community-minded to take her place.”

The council manages the town’s cemetery, looks after open spaces, maintains play areas, provides street furniture, and responds to planning applications.

Cllr Goodall added: “It is important the town council comprises people from all walks of life, with different ideas and beliefs to act as a voice of the community, to represent the users of local services, and to decide how local resources should be spent.”

If you are interested in serving write to town clerk Julia Thorne at the North Street offices or e-mail town.council@ilminster.gov.uk. Applications must be submitted by 12noon on Monday, March 12.
