PLANS have been lodged with South Somerset District Council for extensions at Redstart Primary School in Chard.
The school has applied for permission for two single-storey extensions at the school along with a new pedestrian access, a small extension to its car park and a pavilion.
The plans include an extension to the school hall and a six-class extension to accommodate pupils currently taught in temporary classrooms.
Head teacher Suzanne Flack said: “The proposed work is planned to improve the building for our present pupils. We will not be adding additional classes but ensuring our current children are educated in the best facilities possible.”
Mrs Flack said a proposed pedestrian access point from Elizabeth Way could alleviate parking problems.
“We are aware that inconsiderate parking is a nuisance to residents and we do encourage all visitors and parents to park sensibly,” she added. “We thought it would be helpful to extend our car park, enabling more staff and visitors to park on site.”
A decision on the application should be made by mid-March.
