TEMPLE Methodist Church, in Upper High Street, Taunton, wants people who have had any links with the church to join its bi-centenary celebrations next year.
Pastoral Leader Anne Jordan said: “As well as present members, there are a great many people who’ve had contact with the church in the past, through Sunday School, weddings, funerals, baptisms, pantomimes and other events.
“We’d love to hear from them and invite them to join some of the activities we’ve planned.
“We’d like to hear from anyone who has photos, memories or stories about the church so they can help us fully celebrate this landmark.”
Taunton Methodists had been worshipping at The Octagon, in Middle Street, but in 1812 they bought Temple, which had been built a few years earlier by bookseller James Lackington.
It has been in use ever since and continues as a centre of worship and a venue for meetings, social activities, concerts and exhibitions.
Throughout 2012 there will be musical performances, excursions and costume events throughout the town.
Superintendent Minister the Rev Stephen Mares said: “Temple’s played a major part in the religious life of Taunton for 200 years and it’s right we should celebrate that.
“At the same time we want to use this as an opportunity to remind people in Taunton of the important place the church continues to have in the community and ensure that carries on into the future.”
A Victorian Christmas Market will be held on Saturday, November 26 from 10am to 4.30pm.
