FOLK singing, cider making and apple pressing were the order of the day in Porlock on Saturday.

Hundreds of people flocked to the Apple Day at the Visitor Centre and enjoyed a fruitful afternoon.

Visitors brought their own apples to be pressed into fresh juice or cider – but if that did not take their fancy plenty of entertainment was on offer to keep them occupied.

One organiser, Jeff Cox, was delighted with the turnout and the money raised for the community orchard.

He said: “It went very well. It was very successful with about 300 people turning up throughout the day, even from France and Germany.

“Some of the shops told us they were very busy, too, because of the people coming to the town.

“More people are starting to get involved now and bringing their own apples. Some people took it away and used it for cider!

“We raised lots of money for the community orchard anyway, which was good.”

Juice and other produce from the event will be available in Porlock during late night shopping up until Christmas.
