A FLOURISHING garden society in Othery will welcome celebrities from the gardening world as BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time stops off in November.

Othery Garden Club has been chosen by the station to host a live recording of the popular garden panel show just two years after it formed.

Eric Robson will be joined by Matthew Biggs, Anne Swithinbanks, Chris Beardshaw and guest panellist Toby Buckland as they tackle questions put to them by the audience at Othery village hall on November 15.

Green-fingered pupils from Othery and Middlezoy primary schools will provide help throughout the day and a host of people in the Othery community will be rolling up their sleeves for support.

The long-standing weekly gardening show attracts more than two million listeners a week and the BBC Radio 4 institution has answered more than 30,000 questions since its inception in 1947.

Jo Taylor, founder of Othery Garden Club, said the club was chosen to hold the event after she filled in a long application form.

She said: “We are all really delighted they wanted to come here.

“The club was only created two years ago because there wasn't another one in the village, so it's really good news we have been chosen.

“We try to get a variety of speakers to our informal meetings and we hope this event will put this part of Somerset on the map.”

If you are interested in attending the show, Othery village hall opens at 5.30pm and recording starts at 6.30pm. Tickets are priced at £2.50 and include refreshments.
