A HIGHBRIDGE businessman will join his girlfriend and a family friend in tackling the mighty Machu Picchu trail in aid of Weston Hospicecare.

Scott Woodberry, director of Woodberry Brothers and Haines, his girlfriend Zoe White and family friend Sharon Turner, will head for Peru tomorrow (Friday) for the ten-day trek.

Every penny raised during their trek will go to the charity in memory of Scott's mother Christine, who passed away after a battle with Overian Cancer in 2008.

The family set up Petal - The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust and have raised £30,000 to date, which has been donated to numerous charities.

The trio are hoping to raise £6,000 and they have held a number of fundraising events in the area, including Petal in the Park in West Huntspill.

Around 250 people attended the event and it helped generate nearly £3,000 towards their fundraising efforts.

Three live bands, children's entertainment and a barbecue were put on by Scott with the held from his friends and family.

He said: “I would like to thank absolutely everyone who attended last weekend. Local Burnham people, staff from Woodberry Brothers and Haines as well as friends and family, it was an amazing achievement.”

Scott, who tackled Mount Kilimanjaro last year, added: “My girlfriend was ken to take on an international challenge and when she looked into Machu Picchu it seemed a great adventure, which we would both enjoy.

“We are now all training every hard every day to get as fit as possible. We spend most weekends now climbing mountains and normally average six hour hikes.”
