Truro Cathedral is preparing for a music concert with a difference.

Charles Timberlake will be giving a free piano recital next Thursday, August 25 at 1pm.

His work has been described as having a “unique style” and bringing “a sense of deep inner peace into the heart of the listener.”

Mr Timberlake started formal piano lessons at the age of six and began improvising and composing eight years later, at just 14 years old.

It was not until his mid-twenties that people start to hear his performances of two musicals he scored at Yardley Court, the school in Kent where he was teaching at the time and where he was writing carols to be performed by the school choir.

He was encouraged to record his first album of solo piano compositions, Between the Worlds, in 1991. Nine years ago he met songwriter, composer and musical director John Daniels. Since that meeting they have collaborated on six CD albums of piano and instrumental music, with John adding orchestral arrangements to Charles’s piano tracks.

Their music is played regularly on Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday with Aled Jones.
