Could this be Cornwall’s answer to London’s riots? That’s the rather tongue-in-cheek speculation on Twitter this morning following the tweeting of this picture.

It shows a planter in Truro’s city centre, namely Boscawen Street, apparently pushed over, with plants and earth scattered across the road.

Zak Stanley tweeted the photograph with the words: “What happened in Truro last night?”

His followers replied with their own ideas, the general theme referencing the riots in London last week.

One, Catitude 2, wrote: “Is that rioting Cornish style? Forget the shops and just pick on planters?”

However, the more likely answer was put forward by Zak himself, who replied: “Pretty sure it wasn't a riot! More likely a drunken accident.”

A police spokesman said they had received no reports of criminal damage in Boscawen Street so far this morning.

Another solution could be the strong winds that battered the county last night and into this morning.

Whatever the reason, it's likely to be a storm in a flower-pot.
