Truro’s Lemon Quay was filled with statues on Saturday – but only one of them was made of stone.
The rest of them were “living” statues, created by students of Circo Curnow.
The circus skills students were performing the art of statue – where performers stay completely still so as to appear like a statue – in a circle around the city’s new Drummer Boy statue.
The performance started at midday and lasted for one hour, producing a colourful spectacle for shoppers.
Education co-ordinator Lesley-Ann Eaton said at the start: “The Circo Kernow statues are brilliant, they will definitely give the new Drummer Boy statue a run for his money.”
It is just one of the skills have students have been learning in an NCFE level two training course in circus performance skills, accredited through Cornwall College.
The course has been run by the Swamp Circus Charitable Trust, which has also trained students in skills such as stilt walking, trapeze, clowning, juggling and acrobatics.
Statue tutor Tristan Way, known locally as 'statue man,' is a recent graduate of Circo Kernow.
The final NCFE performance will form part of the two-day youth festival Play Fest, taking place in the Big Top at Boscowan Park, Malpas in Truro on Wednesday and Thursday.
