A Westcountry author will be in Truro in ten days' time to sign copies of his book raising money for the Children's Hospice South West.

David Bourne is continuing his tour of the South West and will be at Truro's Waterstones store on Wednesday, June 1 between 11am and 3pm to sign copies of his Camels novels, which are set in and around the Camel Estuary in Cornwall.

The Three Camels and The Camel of Soloma follow the adventures of Nathan, Zadie, and Soloma as they travel between the present day and the mystical, exciting and often scary past.

Mr Bourne has been supporting the charity's Precious Lives Appeal through book signings for the past year and has already raised over £850 by donating his author's margin from books sold at these events.

He said: “There have been occasions at book signings over the past year when I have been enormously humbled as I have come into contact with the direct results of the work of Children's Hospice South West.

“More frequently than I had expected I have been speaking with an unknown person in a bookshop and found them saying, 'Yes, my grandchild was looked after at that hospice', or that someone known to them needed this help or benefited from a carer's break.

“The reality of such personal experiences is poignant and a powerful motivation to continue the signings.”

The money from the Precious Lives Appeal is going towards the building of Cornwall's first children's hospice, Little Harbour, at Porthpean near St Austell.
