Staff from Truro’s Marks and Spencer store will be celebrating raising over £12,000 for Children’s Hospice South West with a special tea party.

Employees at the Lemon Quay store raised the money for the charity’s Precious Lives Appeal as part of a year-long fundraising scheme in store.

They held events as diverse as bag packing days for local schoolchildren to customer cake sales and raffles. Staff also carried out two charity auctions in collaboration with the local Starbucks, raising over £1,200.

On Tuesday a cheque for £12,872 will be presented during an afternoon tea party at Porthpean near St Austell, where the charity is building a new children’s hospice, Little Harbour.

Matt Joll, from the Truro store, said: “We had such a great time completing all of the fundraising activity and are extremely grateful to all our local customers and colleagues who supported us in raising so much money for this worthy charity.

“This fundraising drive was part of the M&S’s ongoing commitment to supporting its partnerships with local charities.”

Children’s Hospice South West provides care and support for families who are not expected to reach adulthood and is the only organisation in the region providing this specialist care in a hospice environment.
