Thousands expected at May Fayre

THOUSANDS are expected to return to Yeovil Country Park for this year’s May Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday.

Organised by South Somerset District Council’s countryside team, the activities will for the first time include a chance for people to climb Ninesprings’ oak trees with qualified climbing instructors from Tree Frog Climbing and lie in a tree top hammock.

Dozens of nature and environment-themed stalls include woodturning, den building, bird box making, local food stalls and many hands on arts and crafts opportunities.

Countryside manager Katy Menday said: “We hope to see a packed fayre once again with people enjoying the popular returning wildlife stalls and new activities.

“We’ve got a good variety of stalls for all ages – woodland products, country crafts, face painting and local food and drink included.”

Katy added: “It is all part of the district council’s role to educate people about our environment and improve access to our countryside sites, so this is about creating opportunities for people to learn from our rangers and enjoy a community event.

“This year’s fayre has a focus on nature and trees and there are even more free participatory activities for all ages."

The free event will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30, between 10am and 4pm on the grass area outside Goldenstones Leisure Centre.
