There are two candidates for the Combe Ward seat in Chard - with one seat available on South Somerset District Council.

Sara Dowell (LibDem): Sara is a first-time candidate. She has lived in the Chard area nearly all her life and has recently moved back into Chard town with her husband, Brian. She was educated at Ilminster Girls’ Grammar School and Wadham, before graduating from Leicester University, majoring in history. A passion for history was influential in Sara helping to set up Chard Museum in 1970, specifically with cataloguing and arranging the first displays.

Martin Wale (Con): He and his wife live in Wadeford, Chard, having moved from Bromley, Kent, some years ago. He was educated at Colfe’s Grammar School and developed a lifelong passion for sport, particularly rugby, which he played until he was 47. He served as a police officer in the Metropolitan Police for 36 years before moving to this area where he has served as a town and district councillor for eight years. He is the leader of the Conservative group on the district council and is a former Mayor of Chard.
