A wedding cake created by two baking enthusiasts from Cornwall is being featured in a national exhibition on the history of royal wedding cakes this weekend.

Cassie Lawrence, aged 21 from Truro and a former graphic design student at University College Falmouth, and Gemma Peat, from Newquay, jointly won a competition run by Tate & Lyle Sugars.

Cassie, who has set up her own business Cake Top Characters making caricature-style cake toppers of brides and grooms, created a lifelike model of Prince William and Kate Middleton, while Gemma, who has set up Wedding Cake Gems, made the cake.

Their joint creation will take pride of place in the Let Them Eat Cake exhibition at the Wellington Arch in Hyde Park, near Buckingham Palace in London over the Easter long weekend, from this Friday (April 22) until Monday (April 25).
