A TALENTED young duo from Danesfield School has won a prestigious engineering prize.

Luke Heath and George Day were awarded the highly commended prize at the National Science and Engineering Competition.

They designed a Foam Tech Car Seat using memory foam to make a more comfortable and safer seat for Landrover drivers.

The project was researched using local companies, including the testing of the final product and driver feedback.

Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE, one of the competition judges, said: “The standard of entries was outstanding and the judging process proved much harder than expected.

“The judges were left truly overwhelmed by all the finalist's projects and it's wonderful to witness such enthusiasm and dedication from young people, such as Luke and George.

“It's left me hugely excited about the future of science and engineering in the UK.”

The judging panel included revered academics and industry practitioners from across the UK, including Government Chief Scientific Adviser Sir John Beddington.
