THE Somerset Counselling Centre is offering a workshop in Taunton to support people affected by the credit crunch.

The event, entitled The Credit Crunch – Your Personal Fightback, will provide practical and emotional support to people affected by redundancy, financial or personal problems, and will give them the opportunity to complete a personal budget plan to help them manage their money.

It will take place on April 9, from 10am to 4pm, at a venue yet to be confirmed.

The centre, a charity, will be subsidising the event but participants will be asked to contribute £10.

The day will be facilitated by Barbara Bloomfield, who is a money and life coach, and the author of several books about relationships. She said: “Don’t sit at home wondering how bad it can get! Come out fighting and look your problems or debts in the face.

“There are always answers to life’s challenges and I believe everyone will go home from this event feeling better about their future.”

Somerset Counselling Centre manager, Jan Walker, said the threat of redundancy can be one of the most stressful events anyone can face.

She said: “It can feel as if you are on the scrap heap and will never get another job.

“You need time to absorb the shock. Being able to share your story with other people in a similar situation means you’re not alone - you can think instead of reacting.”
