A Truro schoolgirl has returned from a Sailing adventure in Australia.

Ruth Smith, a year five pupil at Truro High School for Girls, took part in the 14th Mirror Dinghy World Championships and the Australian National Mirror Dinghy Championships.

She was crewing for Martin Egan, her Sailing instructor at Restronguet Sailing Club, which is based at Mylor Harbour.

Nine-year-old Ruth, from Penpol near Feock, was one of the youngest competitors to take part in the prestigious competition, which took place at the Princess Royal Sailing Club in Albany, western Australia.

With Martin’s help Ruth is now planning to take the helm herself and has her sights set on competing in her own boat in the next World Championships, due to take place in Ireland in 2013.

The full story will appear next week's edition of the Packet.
