THE library in South Petherton remains under threat as the village continues to look at options for its future.
At last Tuesday’s parish council meeting Cllr Paull Robathan confirmed he had visited three community-run libraries in Buckinghamshire.
The Buckinghamshire libraries had no paid librarians on site as the retiring librarian had trained up volunteers. The libraries were also dependant on various sources of funding, including private business.
People in South Petherton have been getting behind a campaign to save their library and a petition has already collected more than 500 signatures.
A decision on its future is expected from Somerset County Council in February. Should the funding be lost the parish council will assess the level of commitment from villagers at the public precept meeting next Tuesday. (January 18)
