Taunton Deane Domestic Abuse Forum, a multi-agency forum for people working with victims and survivors of domestic abuse, held two awareness raising events last Wednesday.
Short films were shown to students at Somerset College, Taunton, to highlight cases of teen abuse, followed by discussions on how to stay safe. Forum members were also at Asda in Taunton, handing out leaflets about services available in Taunton Deane and the rest of Somerset.
Mayor Jefferson Horsley joined forum members in Asda and hundreds of people took up the offer of wearing a purple wristband, ribbon or ‘bug rascal’ to show their support of the campaign.
Liz Devaney, chair of the forum, said: “Members were delighted with the support received from the local community to help raise awareness. Prayers were read in local churches while Taunton and Wellington Street Pastors, Taunton Retailers Against Crime and Taunton Deane Council all joined in with the campaign to break the silence around domestic abuse.
